Is there an alternative for overlib that works well with smarty eg by the {popup} tags?

Overlibs gives me tons of headaches. The position is often flawed, so is the size. If I keep the mouse cursor ...

Consider the following case

<td {popup text=$name|escape:'htmlall' }>
with name set to eg "foo' foo";

This will result in a javascript error as it reads (at least in firefox): ...
