Can Smarty or PHP be optimized to take special advantage of certain processor's special instruction sets in the hope getting them to run faster or at least handle certain instances better. |

AFAIK, the closest you get to that with PHP is by compiling it yourself using flags and settings appropriate for your processor. Smarty, of course, is just a PHP application.
On the other hand, OP caches like Turck MMCache, PHPA and others help speed up certain aspects of PHP, but that is hardly the same thing, of course. |
