I've running Apache on a windows box (don't ask why...) and I have the following directory set up:

http://localhost/mydir/
http://localhost/mydir/smarty/

Unfortunately I have no option but to install smarty within my public_html dir. Is there a way to protect the directory without chmod (obviously chmod is not available in windows). Using .htaccess maybe??

EDIT: I did try .htaccess deny from all, but this didn't work.

Cheers,

Ben
