I know that I can call

$smarty->display('template.tpl');

to make SMARTY pipe the contents to result of the currently running PHP script. Is there a way that instead of piping the contents to the currently running page, I could capture that output in a variable in my script?

What I will then do it call the mail() function, and pass the mail() function this variable to use as the body of the email message.

SMARTY is so elegant I want to be able to extent it to email sending scripts too!
