Can anyone tell me how to customize Dreamweaver MX so it recognizes Smarty's template extension (.tpl) so that the code displays as color-coded HTML?

I've had a look through Edit->Preferences->File Types / Editors to add the .tpl extension with Dreamweaver as the default editor but that didn't do it (although, at least Dreamweaver doesn't disown the template files when I try to open them)!

Also, I'd be interested to know a 'best practices' way to implement Smarty into the Windoze / Dreamweaver local testing site definition, re: directory placement esp. image, path definitions, and other such issues.

I am convinced that a FAQ regarding this issue would certainly be popular and would greatly contribute to the Smarty developer community (considering the huge user-base of DW) if we were able to get newbies (like me Embarassed ) off to a flying start!

I know that there already exists a few topics on this subject and if we had a few more contributions then I'd be happy Very Happy to knock up a draft FAQ for your review.

Thanks in advance for any hints and tips

John

PS. I've tried to save topics relevant to this subject, in my browser, but I'm unable to! Is this an attribute of this BB or am I having trouble with my browser?

Hey thanks BlueTrin Razz

... This led me onto Macromedia's instructions on configuring DreamWeaver MX to recognise non-native file extensions, such as .tpl.

('mind the wrap')

heh np I could not stand too the fact that I had to rename .tpl files in .htm (or .html) in order to have a preview of them =).
