Principa is looking for a freelance/contract web developer

For 5 years, we have been working with a contract web developer to build and maintain our PHP/MySQL driven site functionality. Due to recent changes in availability, our current contract developer is no longer able to accept projects from us, and so we are on the hunt for a replacement developer.

We need a developer with enough experience to be able to look "behind the scenes" of our website and grasp what makes it work and how to make the upgrades we require. Our outgoing web developer assures us that the site structure has been built in a clear and consistent manner, and that any developer with enough experience should be able to figure out how things are done. Our outgoing web developer has also promised he'll be available to answer questions to help with the handover process.

Your first project will be to complete an upgrade to our site user system and a new online store that is *mostly* finished, but a few key elements remain before we can launch the new system. We will provide the detailed project requirements documentation along with some notes on which parts of the project are not yet complete. The basic gist of this project is: we're adding about 2 dozen new "Parallel" user access levels (meaning users can have access to more than one "level" at a time), and we are adding an online PayPal-driven store which will allow us to collect payments for site subscriptions, physical products, and events.

And we're not just looking for a developer who can finish that one project for us. We'd like to maintain an ongoing relationship on a contract basis. We'd need you to be available to support our site functionality and provide bug fixes when necessary (billed to us at your hourly rate, of course). Our site is constantly evolving – there's always a need for new site features. So we'd like to offer you future projects as well. As mentioned above, we had a 5-year working relationship with our previous developer and we considered him very much a part of our team.

Must have experience/skills:

At least 2-3 years PHP/MySQL programming experience
Strong experience with integrating PayPal into web applications
    JavaScript, CSS, XHTML

Would be great to have:

    Familiarity with Smarty Template Engine
Pear DB database access library http://pear.php.net/
A good sense of design (however most of your projects will not require a great deal of design work)

Please provide:

Examples of your work (Please clarify the level of your involvement in each project)
Your resume/CV in PDF or Word format
Your hourly rate for site development work

Sound interesting? Then please get to know us by exploring www.principa.net. Send your information to careers.web@principa.net with the subject heading "Web Developer". Principals only, no recruiters please! Our offices will be closed from Dec 23-Jan 7, but we'll be collecting resumes during that time for review as soon as we reopen.
