Hi,
I just released a new version of SmartyDocB with some fixes and improvements: http://sourceforge.net/projects/smartydocb
I'd love additional feedback on the use of this code. You can find documentation at http://smartydocb.sourceforge.net/docs/documentation.xml
Basically, the software allows you to use a block (or regular) function within your Smarty templates which shuffle off your styles, scripts, even personal notes, etc. to separate files to take advantage of separation of concerns (but without the pain of manually doing so) and browser caching. The code can even (by default) shuffle off your styles/scripts to a separate
site-wide stylesheet (conditionally overwriting previous writes by the same template to the given JS file/stylesheet) inserting automated comments to indicate the template from which the styles/script block originated.
I've been "eating my own dog food" now more by using this code fully myself, and I've really found it convenient to fully separate my CSS from my XHTML (though I know I can benefit greatly from more developers helping out or looking at the code). The code also has assorted benefits for XHTML and XML.
I don't have the energy to maintain it now as I'd like, but I really believe this could potentially be useful to people. I also encourage other framework developers to take a look, as it might offer some ideas (to us or to you)... It'd be great to get more feedback, and I'm happy to try to answer any questions...
best wishes,
Brett |
