I am relatively new to Smarty, but have used it successfully and have exploited most of its features --- now I have a higher order problem of managing 100s of sites using all these different templates and the logic embedded in the templates is getting a bit cumbersome.

I have used Symfony and looked at others, but I am really looking for someone who has created 100s of sites based on database-driven metadata. In other words, not 100 sites with the exact look and feel but different text --- 100s of different layouts and features and options that can be tweaked and combined in the database metadata vs. hand wiring.

Most projects seem to assume you need only one site, or relatively few. But for me, to create any of them manually is prohibitively slow as these sites are often created for same-day events and then tossed away. So literally spending more than 1 hour is too much. That said, I can spend MONTHS tweaking the templates and logic to add features that can then become part of all new sites.

I am a programmer, not a designer, so I am not afraid of the coding, but I can also use designer tools, so I am happy to hear about design-oriented approaches (though the programmer in me suspects a code-oriented approach will scale best.)
