I would like to use smarty and wnte the data to a file. I have a roster app that tracks online game battles. A number of teams use my app. One function/script I have writes a list of battles sort of like an upcomming battles page.

A lot of people who use my app have nuke based CMS systems and would like to have information generated by my app show up in a block. When I tried to include my script in a php block in postNuke it blew up my site so I'm currently writing a static html file that my CMS will include.

Right now it works great for me because I use php -q script.php but a lot of my users are in hosted envrionemnts without shell/cron access.

So how do I still get the benefits of smarty but and be able to write to a file?

use fetch() instead of display() and write the returned string to a file.
