I generally make MySQL/PHP sites for myself and friends. I have been asked to make a database driven site for a friend of a friend who is offering to pay me for my time.
Does anyone know what I should be charging? I am doing full site design as well as backend developement. Should my price include the hosting, if they do not have their own host?
Any other things I should consider?
I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks. |

When considering price on websites there are a few things you need to consider...
#1. how many hours of work to design the site?
#2. do you charge extra for database driven websites?
#3. how intensive is the programming going to be
#4. how many hours of programming do you speculate?
#5. how much are your skills worth?
Now when I build websites, say it is for a company that does headstones...
I might say, a professional design may take me 4 hours to do...
I personally don't charge extra for database driven websites.
programming is going to be VERY extensive to fit with what they want..
I speculate about 35 hours of programming alone...
So, 35 + 4 = 39... but if you are 'starting a business' you need to figure out what your time is worth and what the companies time is worth... so in my case..
my time is worth $15.00 per hour... however the companies time is worth $35.00 per hour...
so, 40 hours of work, for the companies time would be $1400.00 total..
Note that this does not include any hosting... if they want hosting and domain registration they need to pay for that seperate from having their website built...
Need anything else let me know |

Here is what I would do. Get all the information you need to get it done and post it on elance. Usually people will bid lower than what you would charge anyway and they will have a team working on it.
Charge a little extra for your time as a project manager. That's what I do and I tell my clients. They are usually ok with that. _________________ GamePacks.org - Products for the Arcade/Media Community
