Posted: Sun Apr 27, 2003 3:16 pm Post subject: How to setup a Smarty file/dir structure? |
|
|
I've read the (confusing) documentation, but haven't fully understood how
a smarty powered site should be structured.
Background: I have my own domain, let's call it fooit.net, hosted on a
web hotell. When I connect to my domain using ftp, I see a structure that
consists of a bunch of misc. dirs and the public_html dir. Everything that
goes into public_html is accessible on the net, everything a level up isn't.
(The path is /home/fooit for my account and /home/fooit/public_html for
the public stuff. The folder such as /home/fooit/secret_stuff can't be
access from the web.)
My 1:st question is: where should I put the various Smarty dirs/files
if the name of my site/app (my site is dedicated to one thing only) is FooIt?
Currently, I have a dir called Smarty in my account root,
i.e. /home/fooit/Smarty. In public_html I have another folder called
smarty, ie /home/fooit/public_html/smarty, with the templates and
index.php (and setup.php). Is this the way is should be or have I gotten it all wrong.
My 2:nd question is: how should the structure look if I apply
the extended setup from the Smarty documentation?
Currently, I've put the setup.php file in the same folder as the index.php
(I.e. they are both in /home/fooit/public_html/smarty) |

xile, so all of the Smarty files of yours can be access by web visitors?
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember reading that some files
shouldn't be web accessible. |

As far as I know any of the files can be publicly accessable but if you want to keep people away then use a simple .htaccess file _________________ "Imagine a school with children that can read and write, but with teachers who cannot, and you have a metaphor of the Information Age in which we live." -Peter Cochrane |

aztek, this isn't the case on my host. only stuff in /public_html/ are public,
everything else is only accessible by myself only.
Thanks for the .htaccess tip - didn't really think of it |

I am fully aware of how a webserver works I was saying none of the Smarty files are a security risk if they are publicly accessable as far as I know _________________ "Imagine a school with children that can read and write, but with teachers who cannot, and you have a metaphor of the Information Age in which we live." -Peter Cochrane |
