Hello,

Glad to see there is a forum now.

I want to instal smarty and I get the following messages :

Warning: Smarty error: unable to read template resource: "index.tpl" in /home/httpd/html/www2/lib/Smarty.class.php on line 999

Fatal error: Smarty error: [in file:/home/httpd/html/www2/lib/debug.tpl line 5]: [plugin] unknown tag - 'assign_debug_info' (Smarty.class.php, line 2472) in /home/httpd/html/www2/lib/Smarty.class.php on line 2579

I have tried many things, among which,


$smarty->template_dir = '/home/httpd/html/www2/intervention/templates/';
and so on
define("SMARTY_DIR","/home/httpd/html/www2/lib/");
and so on...

and the index.php file that is given to download doedn't work.

Moreover, there seem to be a confsuion on the explaination you gave, or something is not clear!!! Or may be I'm wrong!

You have on the basic installation page :

2.8 Editing /web/www.mydomain.com/smarty/templates/index.tpl
==> no guestbook in this path ?

2.9 Editing /web/www.mydomain.com/docs/guestbook/index.php

and you have :
$smarty->template_dir = '/web/www.mydomain.com/smarty/guestbook/templates/';

So what about giving this guestbook using SMARTY for download, it would make things easier !!!

I got the last Smarty.

It looks like Smarty can't find index.tpl, or more probable that it can't find the $template_dir. It also looks like it couldn't find the $plugin_dir either from the second error.

As for the examples in the manual, those are typos in the paths. This will get fixed in the next release. Add /guestbook/ where appropriate from the ealier path example.
