|

Dear Smarty Team,
Please clarify on compatibility & life support for Smarty 2.6.X with regard to Smarty 3.1.X.
I am currenlty on osdate ( Dating ) having Smarty 2.6.X which has OK performance.
1. Is Smarty 2.6.X compatible with PHP 5.4.x & PHP 5.5.X ?
2. What is life of Smarty 2.6.X ... I mean do you guys recommend to upgrade to Smarty 3.1.X for supporting
latest versions of PHP ?
3. What is life span when the Smarty 2.6.x support or further upgrade will be stopped & only Smarty 3.1.X will be focused for further enhancement.

There will be no future enhancements for Smarty 2.
The support is limited to fixing major bugs.
Smarty 2.6.28 does include a fix to support PHP 5.5 |

I have additional question ... Please advice... I have smarty 2.6.25 [ released in 2009 ] having osdate [ dating site] working
perfectly fine. However I need made my PHP code compatible
with 5.5.X hence I need to know having lower version
of smarty is going to cause any browser compatibility
in next 5 years. Please advice. I don't want modify my tpl files unless it is really necessary & not compatible with CentOS 6.5 [ release recently ] |

Smarty has nothing to do with browser compatibility, it is a server-side technology like PHP. It is up to the template designer to make the HTML/JS/CSS compatible with browsers. Smarty is also platform independent like PHP, so nothing to do with CentOS or any specific OS. |
