Am I alone in still using Smarty 2.x?

I wonder how many people here are still using Smarty 2.x?

I have a high traffic site, and a large PHP codebase.

It would be nice to be using latest Smarty, but I did spend some time looking into Smarty 3 and decided against it in the end

This was for various reasons (migration produced way too many issues even with the migration plugin, and performance was comparatively poor - I suspect performance of 3.x has improved these days).

Presumably Smarty 2.x is not maintained anymore, even for security issues?

Im confident I could fix these myself, but I wonder if there are other risks or issues I should be aware of by sticking to Smarty 2.x?

Smarty 2.x is still very widely used, and is continued with support for security fixes. There is nothing wrong with using Smarty 2.x, however Smarty 3.x does provide a giant leap in features and codebase improvements. As for performance 3.x may have some improvements over 2.x depending on how you are using it. Smarty 2.x with caching is still very efficient. As for upgrading, there is always a risk of regression if you are dependent on Smarty 2.x specific features (and unsupported use cases, like plugins using unofficial APIs.) You will have to give 3.x a try in a sandbox environment and see what kind of effort it will take to upgrade. Most migrations go pretty smoothly.

Thankyou!

I plan to stick with Smarty 2.x for quite a few more years.
Its awesome to hear its still getting security patches, and hasn't been fully obsoleted by 3.x

It has been obsoleted and only receive security patches.
If it would not work with next major version of PHP, bobody will care.
