I have a scenario where a particular query might pull up ~2000 records. Adding 2000 individual markers to a map causes the page to load really slow.

What I'd like to do is the following. Please tell me how I might go about this or if you recommend some other approach.

- If a query is of a certain size, I will create "Summary Markers". Thus, there might be a single marker in Southern Cal where the Info Window says "50 records are located in this area. Zoom in to see them in detail."

- A user zooms into an area. Once they reach a certain zoom level, all of the individual markers that would have normally been in that area appear.

To do this, I'd need to add some kind of event logic (I think) based upon zoom changes and also be able to dynamically know what the lat/lon values are on the corners of the map and only show markers that are within that.

Make sense?

In short, I want my users to query only once, but have the results load dynamically based upon the zoom level and viewing area of the map.

Any help/guidance is appreciated.
