I uploaded the plugin files into the plugin directory, the template files into the template directory, and tried to run the example script, but i get this error:

i'd say that the require-call in function.calendar.php is nonsense.
smarty is supposed to include the plugin, not vice versa.
i'd ask the maintainer of the calendar-plugin to be sure what he had in mind with that, or simply remove line 27.
