Most smarty modifiers just delegate to a php-function that gets the string that is supposed to be modified as the first argument and that's it.
It might make things easier (and will save smarty a lot of time including do-nothing-wrappers) if this could be made the default behaviour if no modifier is found: Call a php-function of that name using the text that is supposed to be modified as first argument. Further arguments can be specified with the colon syntax:
"text"|modifier:arg1:arg2:... |
