own prefilter-functions only have 2 params ($tpl_source, &$smarty).

I would like to know the full file-path of the template in the filter.
Maybe you can add a 3 parameter to filter functions $template:
($tpl_source, &$smarty, &$template).

The template object is passed now to filters as third parameter. This is in the SVN now.
