I'm trying to add a javascript on my index.php. My site is all with smarty and it doesn't allow me to add the javascript code. so if you can please help me a bit how to add the javascript so that smarty will recognize it ?

Keep your javascript in an external file. Include it in your html:

<script type="text/javascript" src="yourjavascript.js"></script>
