Performance Smarty 2.6.18 upgrade to 3.1.8

I need to know the performance comparision of Smarty 2.6.18 with regard to Smarty 3.1.8. I am currenlty on osdate 2.1.9 ( Dating ) having Smarty 2.6.18 which has OK performance. I need to know that by upgrading the Smarty to 3.1.8 ..do I have significant gain in performance. Please advice. I don't want to put efforts in upgrading the my dating site for just 5% performance gain. Please help.

The greatest benefit of Smarty 3 for me has been some of the new (simpler) syntax. I'm also very impressed with overall speed, but can't offer any data on that.

Also the upgrade from Smarty 2 on n old project took about ~1hr, and I thought that was fast.
