I use Smarty 3.1.12. I would extend the Smarty Compiler (Smarty_Internal_TemplateCompilerBase) so i have a look at the code. I saw it extends from Smarty_Internal_TemplateCompilerBase and i ask myself why these abstract class has no abstract method doCompile() which is called in method compileTemplate()? Wouldn’t it be better if there where such an abstract method?
