I believe we have exactly what your looking for
We have an easy to use smartry/CMS, checkout it out at http://www.contentwriter.net
We have embraced the smarty concept and made the system very extensible, while not sacrificing our main goal which is to make it very easy to use.
Depending on the demand we're considering making it available at a minimal cost on non-commercial websites
Let us know what you think of it |

I don't understand, why are you annonce your commercial CMS system in open source forum. There is many and many CMS, but some people look for universal framework not some CMS. _________________ --markon |

I have to agree with markon, paricularly since mythz essentially cross-posted the announcement into the Showcase forum (where it better belongs). Its not a big deal, of course, but it would be nice if we stay-on-topic in each forum to keep everything somewhat organized.
This particular forum is intended for the discussion of frameworks. Products based on those frameworks (or even the framework libraries) need not be open-sourced--but unless the ideas implemented in them (and discussed here) are openly available so that anyone reading can implement them, there is no point in making posts to this particular forum.
A good example for this forum (IMO) is the topic started by mocean. He doesn't provide a full solution--but he provides enough details and hints to allow someone interested to actually develop the ideas he proposes.
Please and Thank-you. |

Well , after battling with IIS (stupid permissions) I finally got smarty working. I notice everyone else is looking for YACMS. I too was not impressed with phpnuke (any CMS that takes longer then 1.0 seconds to generate a page needs to be decommisioned). My current CMS is very stable but I dont have very good user-group management (just enough for admin or user) but I can generate a page in .05 secs sometimes less. I haven't really got the smarty thing totally figured out yet - its only been a couple days. My cms has pretty good management part - but i havent really seperated logic from display - so there is no 3rd party template editing (as of YET). I really liked what i saw at the cmsmadesimple web site. I think someone else commented on why do developers continue to work on thier own - Im still kind of a newbie - if you can build a cms then youll understand others. So Im gonna keep hashing out this smarty thing and try to implement it into my CMS somehow. I have some pages that change alot and others that dont - i really like how smarty allows for individual caching(although i havent figured out how to implement it yet) once I do i think ill have it made. If anyone wants really fast php/mysql CMS check out http://www.grinderswitch.com/ then email me for code. Im working on making development site so until I get the download link ready this will have to do. Thanks |

ok, now i feel really stupid - i have been banging my head against a wall trying to figure out a decent permissions - then I found PEAR - really really cool - i think i can learn how to use this tool faster than re-invent then wheel. I really think php/mysql/smarty/PEAR is an awesome combo. I just hope i can still get a page to generate in less than 1.0 sec - still shooting for .05 secs. I had it down to .005 once but as I start adding modules it obviously creates more queries and over head (smarty caching should help with the static stuff). I did get perfomce to greatly improve by moving all my class functions into db and only quering for the needed class function when it was needed (instead of one big class file that had to be entirely parsed by PHP just to get one function) Well, Im back to work - PEAR should cut my time in half. |

What would you say are the most important features of a Open Source CMS.
I don't think anyone's looking for the bloat of most of the commercial products out there, but I think they need something more than a simple one page one format, your-image-here-and-your-paragraphs-go-here type of display.
