I have no idea whether this topic has been discussed in any of
the forums - I could not find a reference, anyhow.
I would like to have each and every Smarty user to cast his/her vote here:

Does the prize mean some money for the project?
Anyway, I always wonder how do the coders of smarty make any money. Are they payed for there work or is just pure idealime.

Indeed, it's not a direct money making proposition for me. Smarty is an open-source library that I (along with countless contributers) keep up-to-date. Our company uses the engine in our commercial software, which is why Smarty came to be in the first place... to fill a need that didn't exist. After looking at the template systems out there, nothing fit the bill so we rolled our own. The resulting engine was so successful that we had to make the thing open-source, so I pulled a few strings and got it out there. The rest is history.
