Hello!
I am new to this template stuff. And I was wondering why it wont work?

I took many of the scripts on the smarty site just to have something to start on. And none of the worked. I don't know why...I used the scripts at http://smarty.php.net/manual/en/language.variables.php. I have a webserver on my own computer and on my internet host. it doesn't work on any of them. can you write a very small scrit that says like assign 'cow' 'rasmus' and then output {$cow} ???

I think it's strange..
I am making my website on phpbb. I mean that I include the phpbb files.
Every time I use the command 'assign' it doesn't work-.. I can use assign_vars which works but when I make arrays, it also doesn't work...
Also.. That smarty.class.php,, where is it in phpbb?? I can't seem to find it.. Do you need one to run smarty?? why does my phpbb work then??

I mean..
phpBB work on this computer and phpBB uses smarty but smarty doesn't work outside phpBB..
strange...

Smarty >< Smart if you can't make it work

@ralle: Its not strange, you just don't know what you are doing and you aren't following directions. For example, the smarty class is obviously available in the standard download package.

@Sergey: That's no bug. That is exactly how the docs say it works.

Come on guys, try a bit harder before throwing your arms up and pointing fingers.

I'm sorry.. I just noticed that phpBB uses their own version of Smarty.. the standard command assign doesn't exist. It's assign_var or assign_vars. I am trying to get help in the phpBB forums but they are damn lazy.. sends me links to the knowledge base which I already read...

Thanks for trying to help me!
I hope I will learn the phpbb version of smarty soon Smile

@boost: I think that the more complex softvare the mose simple ther interface. That is not about SMARTY. I feal stupy when try to use it even when do simple things hough I have big experiance in programming.

The simple thing that I would do in my PHP script I have to transfer to templates with it's limited functionality.

No one answered my simple question
http://www.phpinsider.com/smarty-forum/viewtopic.php?t=6629

I canot fetch it normaly in PHP code and I cannot do it in template's either.
