|
|
I have tried this one two computers now with the same result. I am trying to download and install the files on a Windows system
1) I download the latest version of smarty for the smarty.php.net site
2) I try to open the file with winzip and I get the error message:
"Error reading header after processing 0 entries."
3) I try to open the file with TAR, I am shown an empty archive (no files).
Help! is there any other way of extracting these files? Is there a mirror site with .zip format anywhere?

Are you folks trying to unpack that file directly from the net without downloading it locally to your computer? WinZip will choke on that because it has to first decompress the gz packing to produce the tar file which then needs to be unpacked. So it needs local storage. The file is fine, even on Windows. |

I agree, I tried on 2 machines. Actually when I extract it produces 1 file called "content. I con open it with notepad and it looks to be a valid php file wiwth plenty of documentation. Is it not supposed to be several files??? I'm lost. |

I have difficulty in decompressing tar file under windows. The link (ftp...smarty_2.6.18.orig.tar.gz) you gave in this forum actually has .tar extension, not tar.gz;
I tried with winzip and gzip. No luck.
I have shared hosting. I can't directly unzip tar file into linux directories. I need to unzip the files in windows folders, then FTP them to smarty folders in the server.
If you have already downloaded .tar file and unzipped that in windows, please let me know how to do that, what tools to use, etc.,
Thanks! |

I had the identical problem. I used 7-zip, although that may be unimportant. I found that if you unzip, it turns it into a tar gunzip and then you have to unzip a second time and viola I had the folder structure.
Hope that works for you as well |

Hi tonebari,
Thank you very much, you saved my day!
7-zip is the key. It's not unimportant! Winzip failed in unzipping .tar file. 7-zip did this in one attempt.
Thanks again... |

Yes, WinZIP is completely worthless when it comes to decompressing tar files. Basically avoid using WinZIP for anything as there are far better programs out there and most are free. |

*shrug* Worked flawlessly for me. Never-the-less, I tend to prefer 7-Zip anyways. |
