I've been messing with this friggin install for hours now, and I simply can't get it going.
I know PHP pretty well, but I don't understand what's going on.
I searched the forum for posts with the same subject and tried everything I could find that was relevant.
This is the error log:
Smarty error: unable to read resource: "index.tpl"
PHP Warning: file_exists(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(../smarty/templates/index.tpl) is not within the allowed path(s):
I've not been able to get any templates to display correctly.
I've chmoded and chowned everything in the template_c, template, cahce, etc

What am I doing wrong? Lil' Help??!

Why is it this forum is full of people with this problem and NEVER has it been resolved. My log files too are full of this error and I have tried everything short of killing myself to resolve it.
Stary.class.php unable to read resource
*.tpl.php
everyone says chmod 777 isn't this insecure??
I hope this is not just another ignored post.

I think the problem is mentioned right here:

That says to me that you have PHP open_basedir restrictions on, and file_exists() can only be executed within your allowed paths, and that tpl file path is not within your allowed paths. |

I appreciate the prompt reply, obviously I am frustrated here. Here are my exact error messages and maybe it will help you. Your reply didn't make much sense...

Are you suggesting that I need to add the complied templates folder for each virtual host to my include path in my PHP ini?
