Anybody using Xoops? That CMS is how I originally found out about Smarty. _________________ MJS Webmaster Community |

XOOPS is a nice example of what can be done with smarty, but IMHO i don't think it's the best example of what can be done with smarty, so much more could be achieved. |
You know of a better CMS that uses Smarty templates? _________________ MJS Webmaster Community |

I haven't used it yet, so I can't say if it's better than Xoops, but Tiki also uses Smarty:
http://tikiwiki.sourceforge.net/
They just overhauled their site and it looks quite nice now (it was hideously ugly before). The Tiki feature list is quite impressive, but I don't know what the code is like or how extensible it is. It appears to be a pretty active project. |

Not released to the public (yet?). I am working for a company which uses it as Intranet application. Perhaps my boss will allow it to be released as Open Source ... got to ask him again ... |

Postnuke is another CMS that will be using Smarty very soon. The upcoming .8 release will feature a new theme engine called Xanthia and utilizes Smarty.

I wish to learn Xoops this week (I never used it before) as one of my prospect wants it. Is there a quick way to learn it?
Further, I know that no CMS is really useful, because as programmers, most us want to do anything from the very beginning (from scratch, for custom applications). Sometimes, the cost of learning a CMS is equivalent to the cost of producing a new one as needed in a project.
Hundreds of CMS tools evolved with their own standards. In my experience, I found that people of different geographic zones love to use different CMS. In other words, a CMS tool has a maximum popularity in one Geo-Zone: that is my feeling after working with various customers from several parts of the earth. |

I used Xoops for a while. I haven't used it in a couple years though.
Although it was easy to use, it wasn't as flexible as I would like. |
