php on windows knows about these paths:
"//foo/bar" would be a network device.
"a:/foo/bar" would be a path on local drive

i recently learned that php on windows is also aware of paths like "/foo/bar" . it uses the current drive then.

i didn't find any explicit statements in the php-manual that tell me if this type of path on windows is definately supported or not.

Smarty-2.5.0 was a little more sloppy in checking paths so it supported the latter type. Smarty-2.6.0 doesn't recognize this as full-path on windows anymore. i wonder if we should reactivate this "feature".

(i saw a few support-questions in the forum from people who where bit by that, so maybe it should be supported. on the other hand think it's dangerous having a notation that truly looks like an absolute path, but isn't and has dependencies from outside (the current drive))

From a puritan point-of-view, as it appears to depend on magic provided by the cwd, I'm against re-enabling it. A proper absolute path root for windows unfortunately should always start with "drive:/".

Elsewise, I can see the benefit of re-enabling it, for example, for users developing on windows who mirror their server (now win) directory structure. Which makes it a nice convenience for mixed environments. Not that it should be difficult to work around situations like this. hmmm. If re-enabled, perhaps with a notice? Maybe a documentation note would be sufficient?

Since I seem to be indifferent, I vote for the solution that requires the least Smarty code/overhead, whichever that may be Smile
