Comparing template inheritance with a chain of 100 child-parent relationship is academic. But same test using just 1 child-parent repation show that Smarty is executing still 10 times faster. |

Hi!
What I'd like to see is such benchmarks for Smarty 2.x vs Smarty 3.0.x vs Smarty 3.1.x
Thanks!

It would be interesting to see how this compares to the latest Twig (1.6.3) as there have also been several performance related changes since 1.4.0

Faben Potencier, the author of Twig benchmarked various other template engines here in the title: Templating Engines in PHP
http://fabien.potencier.org/article/34/templating-engines-in-php
Covers Templates per second, Memory and introduction to several other template engines.
And still comments about Smarty as:
Smarty is the de-facto PHP standard template engine. |

Interesting read, would you say now with the hindsight of a few years having passed since the article was written that he was right in saying "Why PHP is not (anymore) a good template language".
I personally still see it as very useful..
