I am getting the runtime error on the screen:

Code:
Warning: Smarty error: problem creating directory "/home/rop/smarty/cache/%%135/%%1358927781" in /home/rop/smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1042

And in a log file in the Smarty directory:

Code:
[28-Oct-2003 06:46:59] PHP Warning:  Smarty error: problem writing temporary file '/home/rop/smarty/cache/%%139/%%1393742778/3f9e735353055' in /home/rop/smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1042

When I check the permissions of the smarty/cache directory, I see: 644 (Owner: Read Write , Group:Read, Public:Read) - No execute permission for the Owner!!!

When I reset the smarty/cache directory to 744 (Owner: Read Write Execute, Group:Read, Public:Read) - >Change Owner: Execute<, the problem is cured.

However, the problem keeps re-appearing! Every so often, perhaps more than 18 hours or perhaps a few days later, the directory permission changes back to 644 and Smarty throws errors again!

My question is this:
Does Smarty change directory permissions?

If not Smarty then what else may be causing this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help
John

Try to see whats happening on your GNU/Linux box. You can change al owners is one line...

chown -R owner.group templates_c

or to modify het chmod

chmod -R 777 templates_c

the R stands for recursive and.

Make sure to read the man on chmod and on chowm

man chown
man chmod
