Hi,

In the coming days, Piwigo is going to be launched.
The team is finalizing tests and preparing a new website for this new release. Obviously, Piwigo is based on Smarty 2.6.21 (currently).

PhpWebgallery already had a lot of users mainly French but not only.
For French users we are currently facing a new issue.
Maybe we can have this one else where. Let me explain.

One of the major French mobile phone company is coming to be one of the major internet access provider. It provide to its clients a large free hosting with Php/MySQL. But Php is strongly restricted.

See php manual
http://fr.php.net/manual/en/reference.pcre.pattern.modifiers.php
e (PREG_REPLACE_EVAL) is NOT set.

So we get this:
Code:
Fatal error: SUHOSIN - Use of preg_replace() with /e modifier is forbidden by configuration ...

We contact their support.
Their first answer is:

We propose you to use preg_replace_callback() instead of the /e modifier pattern with preg_replace().

We don't want to manage a fork of Smarty.
Smarty is officially part of Piwigo 2.0.0
We try to persuade them to change or to give us more information.

So they advise us to

1 - I am not convinced that we are able to manage all Smarty cases by the use preg_replace_callback().
2 - Maybe you already know that case and can provide a solution.
3 - They clearly announced to us that they prefer NOT enabling Smarty on their servers than changing this option (for legal reasons).

Being clear with you, we can recommend to our users other free hosting solutions with no restriction at all but...

We would prefer to advise you about this case (which can give ideas to other providers) and to have your feedback asap or maybe a workaround.

All the best,
V. (For the Piwigo team)
