Hi,
I'm writing an OO Templating Engine using smarty for my forms and widgets. My class extends Smarty, but it also needs to be a PEAR Object.
I solved that making Smarty extending PEAR and inserting the call to the PEAR constructor and destructor.
Could it Smarty extend PEAR as an default? So I don't need to patch it every time.
thx

Well, imho, I don't think they will purposely _add_ a dependance on the smarty class.
Two years ago, Smarty did extends pear (as far as i can remember), but not anymore.
If this dependance deserves nothing, why should they care ? |

I don't recall if Smarty ever extended Pear--but the config_file class did at one time for the error handling capabilities (which are ok, but not the best IMO).
What would be the benefit of extending Pear, other than your project prefers it? I don't see any but I'd like to hear your opinion. To me, it is just extra overhead.
Also, why is it necessary for Smarty to extend Pear in your project at all? Is it for error handling? If so, there may be other ways to hook them together. |

And also some extra trouble fror those that are running their stuff in a
typical safe_mode web hotel where PEAR cannot be include()d. This would
mean that one should install PEAR by hand for every installation of a
Smarty application. No good. |
