Good day!

Will Smarty 2 function-style plugins (modifiers, functions etc) be suported in future versions? They are supported in Smarty 3 too, but maybe new OO plugins have some benefits?

Yes, Smarty 2 style plugins will always be supported. OO plugins execute as a matter of fact a bit slower.

A OO plugin can make sense for compiler plugins if they want to make use of some methods of the internal compiler.
