In Smarty 2 it was possible to negate boolean values with an exclamation point:
{include file="x.tpl" var=!$record.enabled}
Smarty 3 (tested with beta 5) now gives an error:
Unexpected "!", expected one of: "{" , "identifier" , "$" , "closing tag" , INTEGER , "+" , "-" , "(" , TYPECAST , "boolean" , "null" , SINGLEQUOTESTRING , """ , "#" , "["
