I wouldn't do that, since the 3.1.31 release is much better and has less flaws. (Beside of the new created, though.) Smile Its always on the road.

The issue is: Smarty shouldn't be doing what it is doing. Ensuring that a method result isn't used within isset() (or empty() for older php versions) should be the developer's responsibility, depending on the php version. Smarty modifying the logic of how if statements work (in a minor-release!) is just something that shouldn't happen.

As long as there is no bugfix release for the bug, I _will_ be sticking to 3.1.29 which seems to be the last stable release of smarty. Neither do I have the time for days of upgrade and testing work every time a new smarty release appears, nor the time to maintain my own fork.

Can you file an issue on GitHub?
Smarty should not second-guess the programmer's decisions.
