Its almost October now, I wonder what the current status is for Smarty 3.2. Lemme know if any of the dev staff can answer this question, I look forward to seeing all these potential PHP 5.3 features in the next release. [/b]

Well, I can work only in my spare time and the project got larger as originally planed. The major part of the iternals are rewritten. And there is still some work to do. Because of some business traveling in the next couple weeks there is today no estimation.

Sorry to ask, is there any place, where we can read about the roadmap for 3.2? Planned features/enhancements?
I can't seem to find anything on wiki.

Was hoping to check in and see how 3.2 is coming along. We're some of the devs who would love to see NameSpace support (for calling constants, static vars, and methods of namespaced classes).

Yeah, I was definitely looking for Smarty 3.2 myself. A few days ago I had a discussion with someone who despises smarty and calls it an old-fashioned template engine that no longer meets the need of modern web development. I hope Smarty 3.2 could be released soon and change the opinion of these people. I mean, to prove that its still a software with good quality.

I don't see how anyone can "despise" it as being old fashioned. It is still a high quality piece of code with a very elegant template language.

But without namespace support some of us are forced to do ugly workarounds to make use of modern practices.

I agree, plus I like that Smarty is still supported even now.

Hi,

Any news on smarty 3.2 yet? And namespaces?
If the rewrite to namespaces is too complex, maybe put it into smarty4? Can other people help out? More contributers?

I hope smarty can keep up!! We don't want twig to walk over smarty.

Is there any solution to give smarty a new impuls?
What about getting more contributors?
Or even a fork?

What doesn't work for you in Smarty, or what functionality you're missing?

First That is really the wrong question!
A vivid module in these times, should be in constant development, to keep up with the quick changes in IT.
Doesn't it worry you that this forum isn't busy anymore as it used to be?

Second, for years now, a new version is promised.

Third, the new features of php are not fully used yet. Like namespaces. And therefore extending the functionality of smarty is not as easy as it could and should be.

Fourth, any self-respecting developer wants to boost on his experience of the newest software.
Most people, especially new young developers, look at software with a fancy (responsive) website, an active community and easy youtubes.

If smarty wants to keep up, it MUST renew itself or it will be forgotten.
And I really would hate that, because it is THE BEST template-engine there is.

Greetz!

No, that is really the right question.
If a project constantly "developing", you can't rely on its functionality remaining unchanged and unable to trust it with your project's well-being.

Maybe you overlooked your own question in this topic....
Which is already more then 3 years old and the developers didnt bother to answer even an administrator as yourself....

No, I didn't overlook it. I asked a question, not made claims.
