|

Some of my PHP colleagues are not using smarty because is old and when they go to website they see site from previous century. And I agree with them. Old website are making You to close a browser.
I like smarty because it is easy to use and very fast. Has features like "extends", macros, functions and many others. I can easily say that I have never use better html template engine across PHP and JAVA. So why we have old website ?
Is smarty is dead?
I would say : It doesn't need to! Just update website add some performance comparisons with Twig and Blade on main website. Some picture of plugins in PHPStorm.

Which "company" are you talking about?
Also, if you are trying to embarrass anybody, you should try harder. People here are not 14 years old and not so easily provoked. |

Well I have no idea what are You talking about ? I used "company" word because I really do not know who is behind Smarty project. No offence . What I wanted to know is why this website is not going with the times? Check some of the other sites:
https://freemarker.apache.org/
https://laravel.com/
https://symfony.com/
https://sensiolabs.com/
https://spring.io/
So that is one question. The other one is : Is Smarty is dead ? No offence. |

Last release was less than a month ago.
Security issues are fixed with priority.
What makes you ask such question? The look of a website? What specifically you did not like in it?
The fact it does not obsessively use javascript or that it does not send browser into an infinite loop with mindblowing CSS cascade? |

Why I ask:
0. Fear. I use smarty as a main template engine. It will be hard for me to change to other view framework. So I wanted to know if project is still kicking.
1. Old website say it and last updates (mostly bug fixes) says that is prolonging life.
2. My colleagues do not use it. They said that is old (not modern) - Yeah, I know they are stupid.
3. Guys have similar ideas. Check the last one.

"The fact it does not obsessively use javascript or that it does not send browser into an infinite loop with mindblowing CSS cascade?"
You think like developer not like sales man. Which is good for us developers but not for smarty itself. The issue is the design and I think that You can have new, fresh website with simple css and html.
"What specifically you did not like in it?"
Overall view. It does not encourage the people to use it. But I will say again: Smarty is the best view framework/engine I have ever work with. It's a good product and deserve to have professional website.
I create this topic to ask about smarty's future and give my opinion what You can do to gain some popularity.
I know that You feel that I'm messing around and that's not true. |

Send them to git hub? I know what you mean, smarty's website has been consistent for over a decade, its always nice to refresh the branding of a product but that can take a lot of co-ordination and time away from the projects themselves. |

I don't think sending users to github on the begining is a good idea. That is behavior for small projects. It should be one page site with nice graphic. With "Get Starting" button.
That's my opinion. |

I agreee Smarty should take example from the best players on the scene.
I've heard Composer is quite a star. How about their website? |

I think composer design is a bad idea. They don't have concurrency. it's too plain. |

I was just saying that their website is too simple. And they do not need to fight for popularity, because they don't have competition . |

Yes, I see it.
You're judging application performance by their website design. |
