$smarty->display + $smarty->fetch klappt nicht

Hallo Leute!
Nach sehr sehr langer zeit bin ich wieder mal im Forum.

Mich plagt ein riesen Problem mit einer selbstgebauten Webseite:

Seit Anfang Dezember wurden alle Webserver unseres Providers auf PHP 7.2.x umgestellt.
Und damit klappte vieles auf der Webseite nicht mehr.
Auf mysqli war schnell umgestellt, die veralteten php Befehle waren auch schlell erledigt.
Dann habe ich Smarty von V2.6.22 auf 2.6.30 umgestellt.
Und da beginnen meine Probleme:
Die einzelnen Smarty Variablen werden korrekt angelegt, soweit funktioniert alles gut.
leider scheint $smarty-fetch() und $smarty->display() nicht mehr zu funktionieren.
Ich erhalte stets eine leere Seite.
Lasse ich mir die $smarty Variable auflisten, sind all die per assign gesetzten Variablen vorhanden, die per fetch() beschriebenen Variablen mit den Teilbereichen des HTML Codes sind leer.
Auch die einzelnen Pfade habe ich geprüft, passt alles...

Also check your webserver logs.
And perhaps migrate to Smarty 3. If that's a personal project, this should be doable.
