How to translate the documentation to your own language and contribute this to the Smarty developers (as per boots):
1) Grab a copy of smarty from SVN (see http://www.smarty.net/download.php) and try to stay synchronized with the SVN version rather than a released version of the manual sources.
2) The manual is written in DocBook. Go to the documentation folder and view the README. Do not translate the generated docs -- only the DocBook sources. This way, any of the supported output formats could be generated.
3) Create a new folder for your language (use appropriate two letter abbrev). Use the en/ folder as your guide for translation. Copy the files from there into your new folder.
4) translate away! docs/scripts/revcheck.php might be useful to you to ensure your translation work is synchronized with the english manual.
5) When you are done, tar.gz or zip up your work, put it somewhere on a public server and send a note to the smarty-dev mailing list. One of the doc maintainers should respond and as long as your work follows the norms you will probably get karma so that you can maintain the translation (that requires a google code SVN account -- you don't need one yet and even if you don't get one, someone else can commit your work).
6) if you have more questions or need more details try sending a note to the smarty-dev mailing list as many of the manual maintainers are more likely to see it there rather than here. |
