Having watched the traffic on both the mailing list and this forum, that a significant amount of messages could be averted by just setting the default for $use_sub_dirs = false.
Anyone who wanteded it on could easily override it (just as anyone who doesn't want it now can turn easily it off ) , but my thoughts are that by the time anyone gets around to worrying about tuning for the number of files in the cache directory, they are probably pretty familar with the API and can dig the info up for this setting quickly. The reverse senario (current condition), the setting is enabled and causes many people problems at the time of installation, seems to be the cause of many smarty newbie help requests.
Pros? Cons? Thoughts? _________________ Jason
